Walmart Recalls 850,000 Ozark Trail Bottles After Eye Injuries Reported

Walmart is recalling nearly 850,000 of its Ozark Trail 64-ounce Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles due to a dangerous design flaw that has already caused serious injuries — including permanent vision loss in two people.

The problem lies in the bottle’s black screw-on lid. If the bottle contains carbonated drinks or perishable liquids like juice or milk, pressure can build up inside. When opened, the pressure can cause the lid to shoot off unexpectedly — fast enough to injure someone nearby.

So far, three people have been hurt by these lids flying off, with two suffering lasting vision damage after being struck in the eye.

The affected bottles are silver with black caps, measure 4.41 x 4.41 x 11.5 inches, and feature the Ozark Trail logo on the side. Though the model number — 83-662 — doesn’t appear on the bottle itself, it can be found on the original packaging.

These water bottles have been sold exclusively at Walmart stores and on Walmart.com since 2017 for about $15 each.

What You Should Do

If you own one of these bottles, stop using it immediately. Walmart and the product importer, Olympia Tools International, are offering full refunds. You can return the bottle to any Walmart store for your money back.

If you have questions, you can contact Walmart’s recall hotline at 800-925-6278 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Central Time.

Safety Reminder

This recall is an important reminder: never store carbonated or perishable beverages in sealed containers not built to handle internal pressure. Always follow safety and care instructions to avoid serious accidents.

Protect yourself and your family — check your bottles and spread the word.
